4   Irresponsible Housing Developments

Flooding our homes is of course a risk in parts of Florida. However, flooding your home outside of a flood zone in a new development is avoidable. Thanks to the REP party’s negligence and corruption, sadly this is not true … many new development houses are certain to flood repeatedly in the future, not only during hurricanes, but due to smaller storm events as we saw during 2024, and the reasons are so well hidden that nobody in the FL REP Government will be held responsible.

The answer is found in 30 years of supermajority rule by the REP party in Florida where every year, the large developers and attached corporation pay $billions to the political lives … almost unavoidably that leads to ever increasing corruption, where the REP party has stripped away regulations and infrastructure funding through ridiculously low impact fees required from the developers. From a distance this creates attractive housing to out-of-state retirees especially, who do not know or understand the risks they are walking into.

The 30+ years REP party supermajority in FL has developed an economy that requires more and more housing development to fund their ill-thought programs from their main tax income source: housing.

An example: During 2023 the impact fees for single family housing in Manatee County was a mere 1.6% of the $3.8 billion new housing developments. The required impact fees should be a minimum of 10% and even much more if, for example, new dams need to be built to handle the high stormwater from impermeable roofs and roads.

The DEM party will fix this broken system to make sure our Florida citizens can afford living and prospering in the best State in the USA.
